We all have scars from living exciting lives. Whether they are from childhood or from recent surgery, our scars stay with us, but some scars leave more of a lasting impression.
A healthy scar will be slender, as wide as the original incision and will keep the sides of the skin firmly held together. A healthy scar will be light in color almost fading in to the surrounding skin color. It will also be flat and moveable, so that when you rub the skin it moves easily without attaching to any deeper layers of the body.
An unhealthy scar can be spread wide and look thinner at the place of an incision than the surrounding skin. It can be dark in color or reddish even after years of healing. It can grab onto the deeper layers of skin, muscle and sometimes even all the way into internal organs so that movement is painful and limited. When the qi and blood flow in an area is limited it can cause all sorts of problems:pain, organ issues, lack of muscle mobility, loss of sensation, numbness or tingling.
Acupuncture Scar Treatments are an incredibly effective and quick way to bring blood and qi flow to an area and allow healing to start up again. Very often the deeper layers of skin and muscle will loosen up and slip down to their own area leaving the superficial skin to move more freely. Once a week treatment of scars can have profound results at any stage in the healing process. I’ve worked on forty year old scars and week old scars. Both show quick and significant change.
